Force windows to install a driver

If you know you have the right driver for your hardware, but the Windows "Found New Hardware" wizard isn't accepting; this tutorial shows you how to for Windows to accept the driver in four simple steps.

Step 1: When the wizard appears, select "Install from a list or specific location."



Step 2: After pressing Next. choose "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install."; then press Next again.



Step 3: Press Next again to skip the screen pictured below.



Step 4: Click the "Have Disk" button and choose the location of your driver in the dialog that appears. Your driver will now be in the driver list; select it and press Next. The driver will now install.



If Windows XP gives you a message about the driver not being digitally signed you would, of course, press "Continue Anyway."
